Perkins Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament On Lake Hartwell

LAVONIA, Ga. – Jerry Perkins of Asheville, N.C., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 22 pounds, 3 ounces Saturday to win the Bass Fishing League Savannah River Division bass fishing tournament on Lake Hartwell. For his victory, Perkins earned $4,720.

Boater Jerry Perkins of Asheville, N.C., used a total catch of 22 pounds, 3 ounces to grab the tournament title at the March 31 BFL Savannah River Division event on Lake Hartwell.

     Rounding out the top 10 pros were:

          2nd:   Jerry Kotal, Elberton, Ga., five bass, 20-6, $2,360

          3rd:   Bo Price, Seneca, S.C., five bass, 18-1, $1,574

          4th:    Chris Powell, Williamston, S.C., five bass, 17-11, $1,101

          5th:    David Vaughn, Royston, Ga., five bass, 17-9, $944

          6th:    Jordan Carter, Hartwell, Ga., five bass, 16-7, $865

          7th:    Barton Aiken, Greenville, S.C., five bass, 16-4, $787

          8th:    Corey Hunnicut, Fairplay, S.C., five bass, 15-12, $668

          8th:    Sammy Moody, Mauldin, S.C., five bass, 15-12, $668

          10th: Adam Vaughn, Lyman, S.C., five bass, 15-9, $551

     Hank O’Shields of Honea Path, S.C., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 17 pounds, 15 ounces Saturday to win $2,360 in the co-angler division.

     Rounding out the top 10 co-anglers were:

          2nd:   Kaleb Turner, Hartwell, Ga., five bass, 14-0, $1,180

          3rd:   T.J. Eubanks, Inman, S.C., five bass, 13-6, $787

          4th:    Brandon Brock, Honea Path, S.C., five bass, 12-15, $551

          5th:    Rusty Lamb, Augusta, Ga., five bass, 12-5, $472

          6th:    Bryan Waddell, Taylors, S.C., five bass, 12-3, $433

          7th:    Michael Rowland, Clemson, S.C., five bass, 11-14, $393

          8th:    Richard Mitchell Sr., Appling, Ga., five bass, 11-13, $354

          9th:    Dale Ball, Asheville, N.C., five bass, 11-9, $295

          9th:    Cody Coker, Comer, Ga., five bass, 11-9, $295

     The next BFL Savannah River Division tournament is scheduled for April 28 on Lake Russell in Elberton, Ga. After the fifth Savannah River Division tournament is complete, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 4-6 Regional Championship on Lake Seminole in Bainbridge, Ga. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.

     The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for the BFL All-American. The 2012 BFL All-American is being held May 17 – 19 on the Potomac River in National Harbor, Md. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the FLW Tour.
