BENTON, Ky. (May 1, 2008) - Pro Nate Wellman of Jenison, Mich., caught a five-bass limit weighing 19 pounds, 14 ounces Thursday to capture a lead in the Stren Series Central Division bass fishing tournament on Kentucky Lake. With a two-day catch of 10 bass weighing 36-15, he now holds an 2-pound, 9-ounce lead over second place pro Troy Eakins of Nixa, Mo., who managed to haul in a total of 10 bass weighing 34-06 during the first two days of competition.

"The wind really affected things today," said Wellman, who has amassed over $97,000 in career earnings from FLW Outdoors events since 2001. "It made getting around more difficult, and also made it harder to actually get to the fish."

Although Wellman didn't get to all the spots he had hoped, he still managed to pull in seven keepers for the second day of competition on Kentucky Lake.

Rounding out the top five pros are Curt McGuire of Lawrenceburg, Tenn. (10 bass, 34-03); J.R. Dugan of Bardstown, Ky. (10 bass, 33-05); and Chris Johnson of Lowell, Ark. (10 bass, 32-10).

"We tried to hide from the wind today," Nelson said. "We fished on the main lake, then moved in to fish pockets so we could get out of the wind." Nelson caught his limit fishing shallow with a jig.

Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Tim Rhoades of Leitchfield, Ky. (10 bass, 25-07); Tim Cummings of Waynesboro, Tenn. (eight bass, 23-09); Frank Divis Sr. of Fayetteville, Ark. (seven bass, 23-09); and Joey Rogers of Mayfield, Ky. (seven bass, 23-06).
