Jackson Leads Stren Series Bass Fishing Tournament on Lake Seminole

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (Jan. 31, 2008) - Pro Mike Jackson of San Mateo, Fla., caught four-bass weighing 21 pounds, 7 ounces Thursday to capture the lead in the Stren Series Southeast Division bass fishing tournament on Lake Seminole. With a two-day catch of nine bass weighing 28-13, he now holds an 1-pound, 14-ounce lead over second place pro Clint Brownlee of Tifton, Ga., who managed to haul in a total of seven bass weighing 26-15 during the first two days of competition.

    'This is an awesome lake,' said Jackson, who won the FLW Stren Series Championship in 2007. 'The weather is making it harder to catch fish but I believe that I can go back to my area and make the top-10 cut.'Jackson caught his four bass today flipping mats. 'I fished a different area than I did yesterday. I found this area about five years ago during a BFL tournament,' he said. 'I caught a limit yesterday but the weight wasn't good at all.  Today, I only caught four fish but the weight was there. I had all four fish by 1:30 this afternoon. I am running about 45 minutes to this spot but I think it is well worth it.'

   Rounding out the top five pros are Nicolas Supik of Natrona Heights, Pa. (seven bass, 23-08); Rick Couch of Ocala, Fla. (seven bass, 22-06); and Frank Jordan Jr. of Bainbridge, Ga. (seven bass, 22-06).

   Jackson earned $285 for the Snickers Big Bass award in the Pro Division thanks to a 8-pound, 2-ounce bass.

   Overall there were 318 bass weighing 770 pounds, 10 ounces caught by 186 pros Thursday. The catch included 18 five-bass limits.

   Gerrit Goins of Cleveland, Tenn., leads the Co-angler Division in the chase for a top award of $35,000, including a 198VX Ranger if contingency guidelines are met. He caught three bass weighing 12-07 while fishing with pro Michael Maxfield of North Charleston, S.C., Wednesday and one bass weighing 2-00 while fishing with pro David Johnson of Marianna, Fla., Thursday for a total of four bass weighing 14-07.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Joseph Jenkins of Harrogate, Tenn. (four bass, 14-02); Stephen Kocell of Waxhaw, N.C. (three bass, 14-01); Delane Harrison of Cottondale, Ala. (two bass, 13-06); and Christian Bladen of Chancellor, Ala. (five bass, 12-12).

   Kocell earned $144 for the Snickers Big Bass award in the Co-angler Division thanks to a 7-pound, 10-ounce bass.

   Overall there were 128 bass weighing 304 pounds, 2 ounces caught by 186 co-anglers Thursday. The catch included one five-bass limit.

   The top 40 co-anglers from each Stren Series division will also advance to the championship, where they will fish for as much as $70,000. The highest-finishing co-angler from each division at the championship will then advance to the 2009 Forrest Wood Cup.

   Anglers will take off at 7:30 each morning from Bainbridge Earl Mae Boat Basin located at 100 Basin Circle in Bainbridge, Ga. Friday's weigh-in will be held at the marina beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday's weigh-in will be held at the Wal-Mart store located at 500 E. Alice Street in Bainbridge beginning at 4 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

   Stren Series tournaments are four-day events consisting of two rounds. The entire field competes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. At the conclusion of Friday's weigh-in, the field is cut to the top 10 pros and co-anglers based on the heaviest three-day accumulated weights. These anglers continue competition Saturday, with the winners determined by the heaviest accumulated weight from all four days.
