BRANSON, Mo. (Nov. 5, 2008) - Pro David Curtis of Trinity, Texas, caught a five bass limit weighing 17 pounds, 1 ounce to lead day one of the Stren Series Championship bass fishing tournament on Table Rock Lake. Curtis now holds a slim 6-ounce lead in the tournament featuring top anglers fishing for as much as $140,000.
"I had a good day today," said Curtis, who qualified as the No. 11 seed in the Texas Division. "My first spot produced two nice fish and it was a spot that I found during practice. I didn't know what the potential would be in that spot with the conditions we had today. I was a little disappointed that I didn't catch more in that spot but it was a great way to start the day."
Curtis took all largemouths to the weigh-in stage on the first day of competition but explained that the majority of his key areas are holding spotted bass.
"I fished shallow and deep today," he said. "I really think that the wind and overcast helped my bite today and the pattern that I am on. I feel like fishing in the fall is a strength of mine and it is my favorite time of year. With the weather changing tonight we will see what happens to the bite tomorrow."
"I do feel good about tomorrow, but you never know what will happen," he said. "Last year I finished third in the Stren Championship which is good but I would love to win but before I can do that I need to catch as many bass as I can to make it in the top 10."

In the Co-angler Division, Stephen Smith of Glenwood, Ark., caught five bass weighing 12 pounds, 11 ounces to take the lead.
