MANNING, S.C. (April 19, 2006) Pro Koby Kreiger of Okeechobee, Fla., caught a five-bass limit weighing 22 pounds, 9 ounces to lead day one of the Stren Series Southeast Division bass fishing tournament on the Santee Cooper lakes.
The tournament the fourth and final Southeast Division event includes a field of 180 boats. Wednesdays spring weather conditions were typical for the area warm and humid with thunderstorms. Many bass are still moving up on beds to spawn, and the on-and-off showers and wind caused problems for anglers sight-fishing.
I actually had a tough day, Kreiger said. I only had one keeper in the boat at 11:30 a.m. and ended up only catching about seven or eight keepers. The weather was bad, and I was trying to sight-fish. When the sun came out and I could see, I could catch them. But when the wind started blowing and it started raining, it was tough.
I didnt see as many on beds today, but that could have because of the weather. I found enough on beds to get through the first round, if I can catch what I can see. If I make the top-20 cut, then Ill have to start over and find more fish.
