Notes and Quotes From Day 1 Of The 2002 Classic

The 2002 Bassmaster Classic

B.A.S.S. Hooks BUSCH Beer

B.A.S.S. today announced its newest sponsor: BUSCH Beer is now the "Official Beer of B.A.S.S." The relationship is a perfect fit. B.A.S.S. is one of the world's largest promoters of recreational bass fishing. Anheuser-Busch Inc., has a long history of supporting conservation and outdoor activities. And fishermen everywhere enjoy BUSCH products after a day of fishing. The immediate impact of the BUSCH sponsorship will be seen in next year's Angler of the Year program. The 2003 BUSCH B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year will win $100,000.

Classic Stats

Mark Davis is the only pro to win the Classic and Angler of the Year title in the same season (1995). Rick Clunn is the only pro to successfully defend a Classic title. Clunn won in '76 and '77. Clunn narrowly missed a threepeat, placing second in '78.

A Better Way To Tow

Towing today's double-axle boat trailers can be a real challenge when turns are tight. Chevy has developed a solution. QUADRASTEER by Delphi enhances steering control by turning the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels at speeds above 40 mph. This allows the truck and trailer to shift lanes in unison - the trailer moves with the truck instead of responding independently - creating a more stable environment for both the vehicle and the tow load. A dash-mounted control allows drivers to easily select Two Wheel Steer or Four Wheel Steer. The new QUADRASTEER technology is available on Silverado 1500 LS and LT Extended Cab Short Box Models only.

A Classic Event For Kids

This year's Kids Classic, a favorite part of Classic week, was a resounding success. Over 1,100 boys and girls collected free shirts, hats, and Zebco rods and reels before casting at the well-stocked lakes of Oak Mountain State Park. All 52 Classic contenders also were on hand to give the young fans autographs and to pose for photos. The Tournament Trail hot air balloon was a real crowd pleaser as it made a short flight around the venue and landed on a beach in front of the autograph booths.

Quote Of The Day

"Well, do I at least get a six pack?"

-- 2002 B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year Davy Hite after being told next year's winner will receive $100,000.

Classic Fact
