WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (July 25, 2005) - Boater Chuck Schultz Jr. of Richmond earned $3,965 Saturday as winner of the Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division bass fishing tournament on the Chickahominy River. The tournament was the fourth of five regular-season Piedmont Division events and earned Schultz 200 points in the Boater Division.
Schultz's winning catch of five bass weighed 14 pounds, 2 ounces. He was fishing crankbaits and worms around brush piles in out-going tides when he caught his bass. He earned an additional $630 as winner of the big-bass award, thanks to a 4-pound, 12-ounce bass.
Finishing second was Sam Westbrook of Petersburg with five bass weighing 11 pounds, 4 ounces that earned him $1,982. Mark Herndon of Bahama, N.C., claimed $1,297 as the third-place finisher thanks to three bass weighing 10 pounds, 6 ounces. In fourth was Ricky Farr of Chesterfield with three bass weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces worth $1,009, and finishing fifth and earning $829 was Jerry Davis of Petersburg with five bass weighing 8 pounds.
Westbrook earned an additional $500 as winner of the Ranger Cup award. Scott Mummert of Winfall, N.C., earned $1,982 as the co-angler winner, thanks to four bass weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces that he caught on a finesse worm.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Fran Andrews Jr. of Matoaca, Va. (two bass, 6 pounds, 3 ounces, $991); Vaden Lee of Freemont, N.C. (two bass, 6 pounds, 1 ounce, $651); Steve Kiser of Tarboro, N.C. (three bass, 6 pounds, $505); and Frank Bucciala Jr. of Littleton, N.C. (two bass, 5 pounds, 13 ounces, $414).
Andrews earned $315 as the co-angler big-bass award winner with a 4-pound, 15-ounce bass he caught on a worm.
The Piedmont Division will wrap up its regular season Sept. 17-18 with a two-day Super Tournament on Kerr Lake near Henderson, N.C.
