COLUMBUS, Miss. (May 2, 2005) - Boater Tim Fox of Meridian earned $3,965 Saturday as winner of the Bass Fishing League Mississippi Division bass fishing tournament on the Columbus Pool of the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway. The tournament was the third of five regular-season Mississippi Division events and featured 126 boaters vying for the win, which earned Fox 200 points in the Boater Division.
Fox's winning catch of five bass weighed 17 pounds, 5 ounces. He was fishing a white spinnerbait around cypress trees when he caught his bass.
Finishing second was Johnny Price Jr. of Brookwood, Ala., with five bass weighing 16 pounds, 11 ounces that earned him $1,982. Yancy Windham of Gordo, Ala., claimed $1,297 as the third-place finisher thanks to five bass weighing 16 pounds, 8 ounces. In fourth was Danny Walden of Columbus with five bass weighing 14 pounds, 4 ounces worth $1,009, and finishing fifth and earning $829 was BJ Barnett of Alexander City, Ala., with five bass weighing 13 pounds, 1 ounce.
Price earned an additional $500 as winner of the Ranger Cup award. Kyle Glasgow of Guin, Ala., took Boater Division big-bass award honors, earning $630 for a 7-pound, 5-ounce bass. He caught his big bass on a spinnerbait.
David Cook of Pearl bested 126 Co-angler Division competitors to earn $1,982 as the co-angler winner, thanks to five bass weighing 11 pounds, 4 ounces that he caught on a spinnerbait.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are John Speake of Terry (five bass, 10 pounds, 10 ounces, $991); W.K. Luckett Jr. of Ridgeland (four bass, 10 pounds, 5 ounces, $651); Monte Knight of Ouitman (five bass, 9 pounds, 7 ounces, $505); and Brandon Bolton of West Point (four bass, 8 pounds, 15 ounces, $414).
Eddie Laster of Morton earned $315 as the co-angler big-bass award winner with a 5-pound, 15-ounce bass he caught on a buzzbait.
The Mississippi Division's next event will be held June 25 on Columbus Pool near Columbus. The Mississippi Division will wrap up its regular season Sept. 17-18 with a two-day Super Tournament on Ross Barnett Lake near Brandon.
