GROVE, Okla. (Oct. 4, 2004) - Boater John Vick of Inola earned $5,207 Sunday as winner of the two-day, season-ending Bass Fishing League Okie Division Super Bass Tournament on Grand Lake. His two-day total of 25 pounds, 7 ounces topped 76 fellow competitors in the Boater Division.
Vick caught 9 pounds, 11 ounces Saturday to advance to Sunday's competition, where he caught 15 pounds, 12 ounces to post the heaviest two-day weight and claim the win. He caught his tournament-winning bass on a DD22 crankbait in 8 to 10 feet of water. Vick also earned a $1,000 bonus from Ranger Boats as the highest-finishing participant in the Ranger Cup incentive program.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Wade Ramsey of Midwest City (20 pounds, 15 ounces, $2,603); Robert Myers of Bartlesville (20 pounds, $1,410); Craig Torkleson of Mannford (19 pounds, 4 ounces, $1,193); and John Wynn of Bentonville, Ark. (18 pounds, 9 ounces, $976).
Ramsey earned $760 as the Boater Division big-bass winner, thanks to a 5-pound, 3-ounce bass he caught on a Zoom lizard.
Jim Hargrave of Cushing earned $2,603 as winner of the Co-angler Division with a two-day total of 14 pounds, 3 ounces. He caught his bass on a Brush Hog.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Brent Haggard of Gans (11 pounds, 12 ounces, $1,302); Scott Hester of Wagoner (11 pounds, 4 ounces, $705); Terry Swart Jr. of Morrison (10 pounds, 11 ounces, $597); and James Marion of Tulsa (10 pounds, 10 ounces, $488).
Steve Bradfield of Claremore claimed co-angler big-bass honors with a 5-pound, 4-ounce bass he caught on an Eakins jig. He earned $380 for his big bass.
Each of the BFL's 24 nationwide divisions features four one-day tournaments and one two-day Super Tournament within the regular season. In Super Tournament competition, the entire field competes on day one and the top 20 percent advances to day two, with the winners determined by the heaviest two-day catch weights. More money is awarded at Super Tournaments as well as more points that count toward year-end angler standings. In a Super Tournament, 300 points are awarded for first place, 299 for second, 298 for third, and so on.
Rick Gideon of Inola earned $1,000 as the Yamaha "Be the Best" boater points champion in the Okie Division with 947 points for the season. Chris Couch of Edmond earned Yamaha "Be the Best" points champion honors and $500 in the Co-angler Division. He earned 1,014 points this season.
