HARDIN, Ky. (June 27, 2005) - Boater Shawn Penn of Eddyville earned $4,583 Saturday as winner of the Bass Fishing League LBL Division bass fishing tournament on Kentucky/Barkley Lakes. The tournament was the fourth of five regular-season LBL Division events and featured 153 boaters vying for the win, which earned Penn 200 points in the Boater Division.
Penn's winning catch of five bass weighed 21 pounds, 9 ounces. Penn was fishing jigs and worms around off-shore ledges when he caught his bass. He earned an additional $765 as winner of the Boater Division big-bass award with a 6-pound, 8-ounce bass, plus another $1,000 as winner of the Bombardier contingency award.
Finishing second was Britt Cone of Benton with five bass weighing 20 pounds, 15 ounces that earned him $2,292. Sam Lashlee of Camden, Tenn., claimed $1,500 as the third-place finisher thanks to five bass weighing 20 pounds, 12 ounces. In fourth was Mike Ward of Springville, Tenn., with five bass weighing 19 pounds, 12 ounces worth $1,167, and finishing fifth and earning $958 was Tim Griggs of Paducah with five bass weighing 16 pounds, 14 ounces.
Cone earned an additional $750 as winner of the Ranger Cup and Powered by Yamaha awards.
Chris Jones of Almo bested 153 Co-angler Division competitors to earn $2,292 as the co-angler winner, thanks to five bass weighing 19 pounds, 1 ounce that he caught on jigs and worms. He earned an additional $383 as winner of the Co-angler Division big-bass award, thanks to a 6-pound, 14-ounce bass.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Kasey Alexander of Saint Charles (five bass, 18 pounds, 11 ounces, $1,146); Frank Hickman of Dyersburg, Tenn. (five bass, 16 pounds, 7 ounces, $748); Victor Woeltz of Paducah (five bass, 16 pounds, 3 ounces, $583); and Daniel Effinger of Evansville, Ind. (five bass, 15 pounds, 10 ounces, $479).
The LBL Division will wrap up its regular season Sept. 24-25 with a two-day Super Tournament on Kentucky/Barkley Lakes near Kuttawa.
