SENECA, S.C. (June 6, 2005) - Boater Woody Parks of Lincolnton, Ga., earned $3,711 Saturday as winner of the Bass Fishing League Savannah River Division bass fishing tournament on Lake Keowee. The tournament was the fourth of five regular-season South Carolina Division events and featured 114 boaters vying for the win, which earned Parks 200 points in the Boater Division.
Parks' winning catch of five bass weighed 12 pounds, 12 ounces. Parks was fishing the lower end of the lake with a jig when he caught his bass.
Finishing second was Kevin Stowers of Gainesville, Ga., with five bass weighing 12 pounds, 7 ounces that earned him $1,855. Darrell Wilbanks of Easley claimed $1,215 as the third-place finisher thanks to five bass weighing 11 pounds, 12 ounces. In fourth was Dwayne Collins of Walhalla with five bass weighing 11 pounds, 9 ounces worth $945, and finishing fifth and earning $776 was Scott Browning of Franklin, N.C., with five bass weighing 10 pounds, 7 ounces.
Stowers earned an additional $750 as winner of the Ranger Cup and Powered by Yamaha awards.
Wilbanks took Boater Division big-bass award honors, earning $570 for a 5-pound, 4-ounce bass. He caught his big bass on a Zoom tube.
Kevin Goldsmith of Hendersonville, N.C., bested 114 Co-angler Division competitors to earn $1,855 as the co-angler winner, thanks to five bass weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces that he caught on a crankbait.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Todd Peeples of Royston, Ga. (four bass, 8 pounds, 3 ounces, $928); Andy Anderson of Anderson (five bass, 8 pounds, 2 ounces, $608); Doug Mahoney of Belton (five bass, 7 pounds, 15 ounces, $472); and John Bolton of Central (four bass, 7 pounds, 14 ounces, $388).
Peeples earned $285 as the co-angler big-bass award winner with a 4-pound, 11-ounce bass he caught on a green-pumpkin worm.
The Savannah River Division will wrap up its regular season Oct. 1-2 with a two-day Super Tournament on Clarks Hill Lake near Augusta, Ga.
