Henderson, N.C. (April 24, 2006) - Boater David Wright of Lexington, N.C., earned $4,046 Saturday as winner of the Bass Fishing League North Carolina Division bass fishing tournament on Kerr Lake. The tournament was the third of five regular-season North Carolina Division events which earned Wright 200 points in the Boater Division.
Wright's winning catch of five bass weighed 18 pounds, 3 ounces. He was throwing a Carolina-rigged Zoom Critter Craw over submerged stumps catching spawning fish.
Wright also netted an additional $1,000 for being the highest placing Ranger Cup participant.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Ricky Roten of Millers Creek, N.C. (five bass, 16 pounds, 7 ounces, $2,023); Cliff Kirby of Catawba, N.C. (five bass, 16 pounds, 6 ounces, $1,348); Hank Cheery of Charlotte, N.C. (five bass,16 pounds, $944); and Jerry Lucas of Raleigh, N.C. (five bass, 15 pounds, 10 ounces, $809).
David Williams of Maiden, N.C., took Boater Division big-bass award honors, earning $555 for a 5-pound, 9-ounce bass.
John Allen of Concord, N.C., won the co-angler division to earn $1,944 thanks to five bass weighing 15 pounds, 15 ounces that he caught while throwing Zoom worms on wind-blown points.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Ellis Bumgarner of Granite Falls, N.C. (four bass, 13 pounds, 15 ounces, $972); Mark Hicks of Wake Forest, N.C., (four bass, 13 pounds, 11 ounces, $649) Steve Cannon of Wilkesboro, N.C., (four bass, 12 pounds, 10 ounces, $454) and Larry Halsey of Pfafftown, N.C. (five bass, 12 pounds, 1 ounce, $389).
Mark Hicks earned an additional $262 as the co-angler big-bass award winner.
The North Carolina Division's next event will be held June 10 on High Rock Lake near Salisbury, N.C. The North Carolina Division will wrap up its regular season Sept. 9-10 with a two-day Super Tournament on Lake Hickory near Hickory, N.C.
