WOODBRIDGE, Va. (April 28, 2003) - Kurt Dove of Warrenton claimed $5,000 as the winner of the Bass Fishing League Shenandoah Division's second regular-season bass fishing tournament, held on the Potomac River near Woodbridge. Dove led the field of 201 boaters with a five-bass catch weighing 18 pounds, 10 ounces.
Dove earned another $1,000 from Garmin for using a fixed-mount Garmin Fishfinder or combination GPS/sounder and $1,000 from Bombardier for owning and using an Evinrude Direct Injection outboard.
Finishing second was Ernie Freeman of Lothian, Md., with five bass weighing 18 pounds, 7 ounces worth $2,500. Richard Szczerbala of New Hill, N.C., finished third with five bass weighing 17 pounds, 13 ounces that earned him $1,700. Tied for fourth place were Brian Tucci of Dumfries and Jacob Powroznik of Prince George with a five-bass catch weighing 17 pounds, 10 ounces. Each received $1,200 for their catch.
Scott Knisley of Vienna claimed a $500 bonus from Ranger Boats as the highest-finishing participant in the Ranger Cup incentive program.
Dick Allen of Sumerduck topped 199 Co-angler Division competitors with a five-bass catch weighing 16 pounds, 2 ounces. Allen earned $2,505 for the win.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Shawn Lookabill of Fredricksburg (five bass, 16 pounds, 1 ounce, $1,253); Travis Daniels of Doswell (five bass, 14 pounds, 12 ounces, $852); Mike Barber of Nokesville (five bass, 13 pounds, 4 ounces, $651); and Wayne Wininger of Germantown, Md. (five bass, 13 pounds, 1 ounce, $551).
Bob Cherry of Pasadena, Md., earned boater big-bass honors and $1,000 with a 5-pound, 10-ounce bass, and James Hoffmaster of Bunker Hill, W.Va., earned co-angler big-bass honors and $498 in his division with a 5-pound, 7-ounce bass.
