MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 13, 2004) - Starting Tuesday at flwoutdoors.com, visitors can sign up for the FLW Outdoors Fishing Challenge - the free interactive contest where fantasy-fishing skill could net contestants great prizes.

The Fishing Challenge's seven contests are played in conjunction with each of the 2004 Wal-Mart FLW Tour events. To play, participants must create their own "pro team" of anglers whom they think will finish in the top five places in the tournament. If the five pro anglers finish in the exact order the participant predicted, that contestant will win the grand prize of a fishing trip for two guided by an FLW Outdoors pro angler. The prize also includes two sets of fishing gear, two FLW Outdoors sweatshirts, two FLWOutdoors.com T-shirts, two FLW Outdoors hats and a one-year FLW Outdoors membership.

As with last year's contest, there is more than one way to win. In fact, the FLW Outdoors Fishing Challenge offers 25 guaranteed prizes for the top-ranked participants in each contest. The format remains the same; after each event, contestants will receive points for their five anglers based on how the anglers finished the tournament. For example, if one of a contestant's selected team members wins the FLW Tour event, he or she will be awarded 200 points. If a team member finishes as the runner-up, the contestant will be awarded 199 points. A third-place finish by an angler on the team is worth 198 points, and so on.

The contestant with the highest point total for each FLW Tour event will win a first-place prize: a 1:25-scale, die-cast replica of an official FLW Tour sponsor boat and a one-year FLW Outdoors membership. Twenty-four other contestants will receive prizes ranging from FLW Outdoors sweatshirts and hats to a sample tackle package.

The first Fishing Challenge is offered in coordination with the season-opener Wal-Mart FLW Tour event to be held on Lake Okeechobee in Clewiston, Fla., Jan. 21-24. To participate in the first contest, players can pick their teams at FLWOutdoors.com through 6 p.m. EST Jan. 18. Participants need to register at FLWOutdoors.com and then select their five-angler team, ranking each angler in the sequential order of the top five places each will finish.
