MINNEAPOLIS (April 8, 2004) - Wal-Mart and FLW Outdoors are collaborating again this year to bring children and their parents a great way to have fun in the sun through the Casting Smiles-Fishing with Kids program - formerly known as Take a Kid Fishing. To gear up for the event taking place June 5 at Wal-Mart stores across the country, the official Casting Smiles Web site at CastingSmiles.com has been updated with new information and added games. (Editor's note: this site no longer exists.)
The site, designed to support Casting Smiles, is available to children year-round and is regularly updated to help keep their interest in fishing piqued even when they are unable to get out on the water. The site is also an excellent resource for adults and provides tips for parents about how to introduce their children to the lifelong sport of fishing. In addition to providing online activities and valuable fishing information, the Web site offers a preview of the free, fun, educational and interactive games that will be available for children at Wal-Mart stores during the national Casting Smiles event.
"Our goal with the Casting Smiles Web site is to provide children and their parents a user-friendly site to visit to learn about fishing and to make it fun for young visitors to visit time and time again," said Bill Petrowiak, vice president of marketing and communications for FLW Outdoors. "We also felt it was important to support the Casting Smiles program 365 days a year and provide resources that even parents with limited fishing knowledge could use to get their children started in fishing."
Teaching children to fish can provide them with a lifetime of enjoyment. The Casting Smiles site features fun games for children, offers safety tips, and includes information about knot tying and suggestions regarding where beginners can find fish. The site also teaches children about conservation and various species of fish.
