Conditions were less than stellar this particular day compared to the previous Thursday when the lake was peaceful and Dave was able to locate numerous locations that were holding post spawn fish. Dave had identified four areas that were on main lake points that had the combination of chunk rock, deep water access and wood. It seemed like the fish were really focused on the wood located on these points.
The day of the tournament Dave found that the water temperature was 65 degrees, but now had a stiff 30 MPH wind from the South to compete with. Thru-out the day the winds would increase to 40 MPH sustained and gust to 45-50 MPH which made for difficult fishing - especially when fishing main lake points with a recovering back injury.
During the first two hours Dave did not catch any fish on his first two locations, which had fish stacked the previous Thursday. While at his third location Behm caught his first fish of the day; a healthy post spawn female that weighed close to 4 lbs. Dave caught this fish throwing a brown and purple vibrating jig.
Dave continued fishing areas that he had located the previous days, ultimately only catching one more keeper. The second keeper fell for the same vibrating jig combo used.
"Overall the day was a good starting point for this year, getting out after a complicated back surgery, hours of physical therapy, and having the confidence that my Skeeter 20i , got me back safe with my catch, in fairly rough water with 4-5 feet rollers and 40 MPH winds," said Behm.
He finished the event in 6th Place and is looking forward to his next event at Sand Hollow Reservoir in St George Utah in June.
