COLUMBUS, Miss. (May 18, 2009) - Clemm Parker of Lucedale, Miss., won the Bass Fishing League Mississippi Division bass fishing tournament on the Columbus Pool Saturday with a five-bass limit weighing 15 pounds, 1 ounce. The victory earned Parker $4,541 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Kentucky/Barkley Lake Regional Championship in Gilbertsville, Ky., Oct. 15-17, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Parker said he caught the majority of his bass fishing a Zoom Old Monster Worm in community holes.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Austin Banks of Madison, Miss. (five bass, 13-14, $2,270); Jeff Johnston of Marion, Ark. (five bass, 11-10, $1,514); Yancy Windham of Reform, Ala. (five bass, 10-14, $1,060) and tied for fifth, Robert Bridges of Brandon, Miss., and Gene Brown of West Point, Miss. (five bass, 10-12, $870).
Johnston took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $660 for a 6-pound, 1-ounce bass he caught on a black trick worm over grass.
Keith Peeples of Greenwood, Miss., earned $2,270 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to four bass weighing 10 pounds, 15 ounces.
Peeples said he caught the majority of his bass on a chatter-style bait over stump beds.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Adam Horn of Canton, Miss. (five bass, 10-11, $1,135); Doug Young of Caledonia, Miss. (four bass, 10-6, $757); Tim Callahan of Houston, Miss. (four bass, 8-13, $530) and Ryan Stewart of Madison, Miss. (five bass, 8-11, $454).
Horn earned $330 as the co-angler Big Bass winner with a 5-pound, 14-ounce bass he caught on a white buzzbait over grass near the Columbus boat ramp.
The next Mississippi Division event will be held on Lake Ferguson in Greenville, Miss., June 27.
