LEWISVILLE, Texas (March 10, 2008) - Boater Jason Gilstrap of Fort Worth, Texas, won the Bass Fishing League Cowboy Division bass fishing tournament on Lewisville Lake Saturday with a four-bass weighing 14 pounds. The victory earned Gilstrap $2,250 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Lake Ouachita Regional Championship in Mount Ida, Ark., Oct. 23-25, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Gilstrap caught his bass throwing a Lucky Craft Jerkbait in 8 to 10 feet of water.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Jerry King of Roanoke, Texas (four bass, 11-10, $1,324); Ken Smith of Dallas, Texas (four bass, 11-02, $882); Mark Beckmann of Bryan, Texas (five bass, 10-14, $618) and Lowell Bennett of Waco, Texas (three bass, 10-01, $530).
Kyle Shirley of Weatherford, Texas took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $285 for a 7-pound, 11-ounce bass.
James Moore Jr. of Lampasas, Texas, earned $1,324 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to four bass weighing 14 pounds, 15 ounces that he caught throwing a green pumpkin Zoom Brush Hog.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Mark Watson of Lubbock, Texas (five bass, 13-09, $662); Johnny Matthews of Hewitt, Texas (three bass, 9-13, $440); Bennie Anderson of Grand Prairie, Texas (three bass, 9-07, $309) and Kelly Polson of Whitney, Texas (four bass, 8-15, $265).
Moore earned $142 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 7-pound, 1-ounce bass.
Cowboy Division anglers will visit Lake Palestine in Flint, Texas, March 29. The division's fourth qualifying event will be held on Richland Chambers Reservoir in Corsicana, Texas, April 26. A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on Lake Texoma in Denison, Texas, Oct. 4-5.
