BRACY, Va. (May 12, 2008) - Boater Greg Lineberry of Creedmoor, N.C., won the Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division bass fishing tournament on Lake Gaston Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 15 pounds, 6 ounces. The victory earned Lineberry $4,012 plus a $708 Ranger contingency bonus and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Lake Seminole Regional Championship in Bainbridge, Ga., Oct. 16-18, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Lineberry caught bedding fish with jigs and tubes in the Eaton Ferry area.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Wes Dacey of Colonial Heights, Va. (five bass, 15-05, $2,360); Flash Butts of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. (five bass, 14-15, $1,574); J.T. Palmore of Gasburg, Va. (five bass, 14-09, $1,101) and Ricky Farr of Chesterfield, Va. (five bass, 14-03, $944).
Lineberry took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $695 for a 5-pound, 12-ounce bass he caught on a jig.
Calvin Jones of Raeford, N.C., earned $2,360 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 13 pounds, 14 ounces that he caught on a shaky-head jig.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Arnie Jenks of Wake Forest, N.C. (five bass, 10-05, $1,180); Chris Sims of Virginia Beach, Va. (five bass, 10-00, $787); Chris Whittaker of Ruther Glen, Va. (three bass, 9-08, $551) and Jeff Dunn of Fuquay-Varina, N.C. (five bass, 9-07, $472).
Jones earned $347 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 3-ounce bass.
Piedmont Division anglers will visit the Chickahominy River in Williamsburg, Va., June 14 for their fourth regular-season event. A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on Kerr Lake in Henderson, N.C., Sept. 27-28.
