Hines Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on Greers Ferry

GREERS FERRY, Ark. (May 11, 2009) - Scott Hines of Sheridan, Ark., won the Bass Fishing League Arkie Division bass fishing tournament on Greers Ferry Saturday with a five-bass limit weighing 16 pounds, 7 ounces. The victory earned Hines $4,046 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Kentucky/Barkley Lake Regional Championship in Gilbertsville, Ky., Oct. 15-17, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

   Hines said he caught the majority of his bass on a white soft-plastic frog fished in bushes and vines.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Kerry Milner of Bono, Ark. (five bass, 13-15, $2,023); Jeff Cooper of Jonesboro, Ark. (five bass, 13-11, $1,348); Shawn Fife of Drasco, Ark. (five bass, 12-7, $944) and Bryce Smith of Cave Springs, Ark. (five bass, 12-3, $809).

   Mike Brower of Texarkana, Texas, took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $555 for a 4-pound, 8-ounce bass he caught on a spinnerbait in deep brush.

   Michael Parsons of Willis, Texas, earned $2,023 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 12 pounds, 13 ounces. Parsons said he caught the majority of his bass fishing a swimbait in brush and weeds in 1 to 2 feet of water.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Tim Rasberry of North Little Rock, Ark. (four bass, 11-3, $1,011); Gary Stevens of Hot Springs, Ark. (five bass, 10-11, $674); Jeff Broyles of Hot Springs National Park, Ark. (five bass, 10-2, $472); and Pete Clark of Malvern, Ark. (five bass, 9-15, $405).

   Jeff Mabry of Benton, Ark., earned $277 as the co-angler Big Bass winner with a 5-pound, 2-ounce bass he caught on a Rapala jerkbait in bushes on his last cast of the day.

   The next Arkie Division event will be held on Lake Dardanelle in Russellville, Ark., June 13.
