Boyd Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on Lake Guntersville

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (March 30, 2009) - Robert Boyd of Russellville, Ala., won the Bass Fishing League Choo Choo Division bass fishing tournament on Lake Guntersville Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 30 pounds, 14 ounces. The victory earned Boyd $5,261 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Clarks Hill Lake Regional Championship in Appling, Ga., Oct. 15-17, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

   Wagner said he caught the majority of his bass on a Rapala Shad Rap around mid-lake grass.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Ron Figueroa of Evans, Ga. (five bass, 27-4, $2,631); Benny Medlen Jr. of Scottsboro, Ala. (five bass, 25-3, $1,753); Steve Stone of Paducah, Ky. (five bass, 24-14, $1,228) and Alex Posey of Roswell, Ga. (five bass, 24-10, $1,052).

   Steve Burchfield of New Hope, Ala., took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $820 for an 8-pound, 11-ounce bass he caught on a chatter-style bait.

   Johnny Sanson of Winchester, Tenn., earned $2,561 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 23 pounds, 5 ounces. Sanson said he caught his bass on a spinnerbait fished around mid-lake grass.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Robert Lamb of Reelsville, Ind. (five bass, 21-5, $1,280); Greg Gilley of Boaz, Ala. (five bass, 21-4, $854); Brian Bailey of Grove Oak, Ala. (five bass, 21-0, $598); and Kibbee McCoy of Crossville, Tenn. (five bass, 19-6, $512).

   Lamb earned $395 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 7-pound, 13-ounce bass on a crankbait around mid-lake grass.

   The next Choo Choo Division event will be held on Wheeler Lake in Rogersville, Ala., May 2.
