Davis Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on Harris Chain of Lakes

TAVARES, Fla. (April 7, 2008) - Boater Tony Davis of Williston, Fla., won the Bass Fishing League Gator Division bass fishing tournament on Harris Chain of Lakes Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 18 pounds, 11 ounces. The victory earned Davis $3,637 plus a $641 Ranger contingency bonus and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Lake Murray Regional Championship in Columbia, S.C., Oct. 23-25, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Scott Devries of Tavares, Fla. (five bass, 13-10, $2,140); William Evans of Polk City, Fla. (four bass, 13-02, $1,426); Joseph Ushko of Eustis, Fla. (five bass, 12-12, $998) and Mike Keyso Jr. of North Port, Fla. (five bass, 12-01, $856).

   Evans took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $605 for a 8-pound, 1-ounce bass.

   Mike Calloway of Titusville, Fla., earned $2,140 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 15 pounds, 3 ounces.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are David Lepsic of Haines City, Fla. (five bass, 15-01, $1,070); William Wood of West Palm Beach, Fla. (four bass, 13-09, $712); Mark Sills of Orange City, Fla. (five bass, 12-15, $499) and Allen Whitt of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla. (five bass, 11-11, $428).

   Calloway earned $302 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 8-pound, 12-ounce bass.

   A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on the Saint John's River in Palatka, Fla., Sept. 20-21.
