CLEMSON, S.C. (April 7, 2008) - Boater Travis Moon of Belton, S.C., won the Bass Fishing League Savannah River Division bass fishing tournament on Lake Hartwell Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 17 pounds, 14 ounces. The victory earned Moon $3,823 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Lake Seminole Regional Championship in Bainbridge, Ga., Oct. 16-18, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Moon caught his bass on secondary points near Hartwell Dam throwing a Rat-L-Trap and crankbait.
Rounding out the top five boaters are David Vaughn of Royston, Ga. (five bass, 17-03, $2,249); Michael Hughes of Greenville, S.C. (five bass, 17-02, $1,498); Cole Hyder of Landrum, S.C. (five bass, 16-13, $1,050) and Brandon Cobb of Greenwood, S.C. (five bass, 16-03, $900).
Pete Sherbert of Boiling Springs, S.C., took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $645 for a 6-pound, 13-ounce bass he caught on a jig.
Vince Smith of Walhalla, S.C., earned $2,249 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 16 pounds, 4 ounces that he caught in 6 to 20 feet of water on a spinnerbait.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are David Cunningham of Summerville, S.C. (five bass, 14-07, $1,125); Kevin Landreth of Seneca, S.C. (five bass, 13-04, $752); Keith Thomasson of Abbeville, S.C. (five bass, 13-02, $525) and Nathan Turbyfill of Hendersonville, N.C. (five bass, 12-14, $450).
Tommy Kimbrell of Eastanollee, Ga., earned $322 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 7-pound bass he caught on a Heddon Zara Spook near Anderson Island.
The division's fourth qualifying event will be held on Lake Russell in Elberton, Ga., May 3. A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on Clarks Hill Lake in Appling, Ga., Sept. 6-7.
