SENECA, S.C. (April 14, 2008) - Boater Kenneth Huntley of Matthews, N.C., won the Bass Fishing League South Carolina Division bass fishing tournament on Lake Hartwell Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 17 pounds, 15 ounces. The victory earned Huntley $3,053 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Albemarle Sound Regional Championship in Elizabeth City, N.C.,Oct. 9-11, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Huntley used a spinnerbait to catch his bass on points of rock.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Jerry Hart of Pendleton, S.C. (five bass, 16-09, $1,796); Brian Key of Pomaria, S.C. (five bass, 15-13, $1,201); Craig Johnson of Martinez, Ga. (five bass, 15-12, $838) and Jeremy Talbert of Albemarle, N.C. (five bass, 15-09, $718).
Johnson took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $460 for a 5-pound, 11-ounce bass.
Michael Nicholson of Summerville, S.C., earned $1,757 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 13 pounds that he caught fishing shallow points on a shaky head.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Keith Dubose of Lynchburg, S.C. (five bass, 12-09, $879); Chad Griffin of Ninety Six, S.C. (five bass, 11-15, $585); Scott Peavy of Ridgeway, S.C. (five bass, 11-14, $410) and Lewis Thomasson Jr. of Charlotte, N.C. (five bass, 11-04, $351).
Don Bowling of Fayetteville, N.C., earned $225 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 4-pound, 6-ounce bass he caught on a green-pumpkin shaky-head jig.
South Carolina Division anglers will visit Lake Wateree in Camden, S.C., June 14 for their fourth regular-season event. A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on Lake Wylie in Lake Wylie, S.C., Sept. 27-28.
