Fitzgerald Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on the St. John's River

PALATKA, Fla. (Sept. 22, 2008) - Boater Trevor Fitzgerald of Ocklawaha, Fla., won the Bass Fishing League Gator Division Super Bass Fishing Tournament on the St. John's River with a two-day catch of 10 bass weighing 34 pounds, 4 ounces. The victory earned Fitzgerald $4,417.

   Fitzgerald said he caught his bass by throwing a frog over the top of grass.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Fred Chivington of Welaka, Fla. (10 bass, 29-12, $2,598); Todd Mowery of Jacksonville, Fla. (10 bass, 28-11, $1,733); Cliff Prince of Palatka, Fla. (10 bass, 27-06, $1,213) and Mike Jackson of San Mateo, Fla. (10 bass, 26-08, $1,039).

   Fitzgerald took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $652 for a 9-pound, 9-ounce bass that he caught.

   Mike Gipson of Niceville, Fla., earned $2,599 as the co-angler winner thanks to 10 bass weighing 17 pounds, 7 ounces that he caught while fishing a soft plastic crawfish over hydrilla.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are John Brooks of Hernando, Fla. (seven bass, 14-10, $1,299); Raymond Riendeau of Saint Cloud, Fla. (seven bass, 14-01, $867); Robert Crosnoe of Inverness, Fla. (six bass, 13-10, $606) and Dennis Badzinski of Orlando, Fla. (seven bass, 13-00, $520).

   Crosnoe earned $326 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound bass that he caught on a Bomber crankbait.
