Hayes Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on Kentucky Lake

BUCHANAN, Tenn. (June 23, 2008) - Boater Ashley Hayes of Rockvale, Tenn., won the Bass Fishing League Music City Division bass fishing tournament on Kentucky Lake Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 20 pounds, 13 ounces. The victory earned Hayes $2,986 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Wheeler Lake Regional Championship in Decatur, Ala., Oct. 9-11, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

   Hayes caught his fish on a ¾-ounce Strike King football-head jig near Big Sandy.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Scott Brummett, Brentwood, Tenn. (five bass, 19-05, $1,464); Matthew Reagan of Paris, Tenn. (five bass, 19-05, $1,464); David Gnewikow of Mount Juliet, Tenn. (five bass, 18-09, $820) and Terry Steele of Sparta, Tenn. (five bass, 18-04, $703).

   Hayes took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $450 for a 6-pound, 9-ounce bass he caught on a football-head jig.

   Ricky Brannum of Owensboro, Ky., earned $1,757 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 21 pounds, 6 ounces that he caught fishing ledges on a Carolina-rigged lizard.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Logan Fulks of Hendersonville, Tenn. (five bass, 20-09, $879); Brendan Murphy of Cape Girardeau, Mo. (five bass, 16-11, $585); Robin Phillips of McMinnville, Tenn. (five bass, 15-07, $410) and Bill Dickinson of Brentwood, Tenn. (five bass, 14-11, $351).

   Brian Fouch of Thompsons Station, Tenn., earned $225 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 15-ounce bass he caught on a worm fishing ledges early in the morning.

   A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on Percy Priest Lake in Smyrna, Tenn., Sept. 13-14.
