HARDIN, Ky. (June 16, 2008) - Boater Mark Maudlin of Cleveland, Tenn., won the Bass Fishing League LBL Division bass fishing tournament on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 21 pounds, 8 ounces. The victory earned Maudlin $3,734 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Cherokee Lake Regional Championship in Morristown, Tenn., where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Maudlin caught his bass on a brown jig fishing points on Lake Barkley.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Jason Sain of Hurricane Mills, Tenn. (five bass, 21-05, $2,197); Drew Lynch of Paducah, Ky. (five bass, 21-02, $1,464); Charles Jones of Jackson, Tenn. (five bass, 20-14, $1,025) and Tim Griggs of Paducah, Ky. (five bass, 19-08, $879).
Jones took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $630 for a 7-pound, 4-ounce bass he caught on a Strike King jig while fishing ledges south of Paris, Tenn.
Wilby Hawkins of Hickory, Ky., earned $2,197 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 19 pounds, 6 ounces.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Daniel Lambert of Cape Girardeau, Mo. (five bass, 17-01, $915); Brent Stevenson of Benton, Ky. (five bass, 17-01, $915); Justin Scherer of Bridgeport, Ill. (five bass, 16-12, $513) and Edwin Traylor of Ashland, Ky. (five bass, 16-11, $439).
Stevenson earned $315 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 6-pound, 4-ounce bass he caught on a spoon on ledges near the north end of Kentucky Lake.
A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes in Gilbertsville, Ky., Sept. 20-21.
