HENDERSON, N.C. (Sept. 29, 2008) - Boater Ray Griffin of Henderson, N.C., won the Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division Super Bass Fishing Tournament on Kerr Lake with a two-day catch of 10 bass weighing 11 pounds, 13 ounces. The victory earned Griffin $4,944.
Griffin, targeting rocks, stumps and brush in 2 to 22 feet of water, caught his bass with a 3/8-ounce jig.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Scott Collins of Raleigh, N.C. (seven bass, 18-08, $2,909); Greg Lineberry of Creedmoor, N.C. (eight bass, 16-12, $1,939); Samuel Fisher of Mechanicsville, Va. (nine bass, 16-10, $1,357) and William Dorton of Church Road, Va. (seven bass, 16-09, $1,163).
Collins took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $772 for a 4-pound, 11-ounce bass that he caught on a shallow-diving crankbait.
Jim Nichols of Chapel Hill, N.C., earned $4,944 as the co-angler winner thanks to seven bass weighing 9 pounds, 15 ounces that he caught while fishing crankbaits and a shaky-head rig targeting schooling fish and grassy areas.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Anthony Wright of Rocky Mount, N.C. (eight bass, 16-04, $1,454); Michael Stephenson of Bahama, N.C.
(six bass, 12-05, $970); Terry Tolar of Elizabethtown, N.C. (six bass, 11-03, $679) and Jamie Denison of Winston-Salem, N.C. (six bass, 10-15, $582).
Aaron Fisher of Mechanicsville, Va., earned $386 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 4-pound, 7-ounce bass on a shaky-head rig targeting deep and shallow waters in the mid-lake area.
