LAKE WALES, Fla. (Feb. 11, 2008) - Boater Wayne Yohn of Polk City, Fla., won the Bass Fishing League Everglades Division bass fishing tournament on Kissimmee River Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 20 pounds, 1 ounce. The victory earned Yohn $3,160 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Lake Seminole Regional Championship in Bainbridge, Ga., Oct. 16-18, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Brent Propst of Port Saint Lucie, Fla. (five bass, 15-13, $1,859); Robert Beatty of Clermont, Fla. (five bass, 15-09, $1,238); Jimmy Williams of Winter Springs, Fla. (five bass, 15-04, $867) and John Cox of Debary, Fla. (five bass, 14-01, $744). Richard Greene took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $485 for a 8-pound, 7-ounce bass.
Norman Pellegrini of Windermere, Fla., earned $1,859 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 15 pounds, 15 ounces. "I was so excited to win the tournament," said Pellegrini. "I am really looking forward to fishing in many more tournaments."
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Bruce Bozman of St. Cloud, Fla. (five bass, 13-10, $929); Jackie Barber of Cocoa, Fla. (five bass, 13-07, $619); Brock Stanaland of Jupiter, Fla. (five bass, 12-05, $434) and Doug Garner of Port St. Lucie, Fla. (five bass, 11-05, $372).
Bill Sunday earned $242 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 7-pound, 10-ounce bass.
Everglades Division anglers will visit Lake Okeechobee in Okeechobee City, Fla., March 29 for their third regular-season event, followed by an event on Kissimmee River in Lake Wales, Fla., April 19. A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on Lake Okeechobee in Okeechobee City, Fla., Sept. 27-28.
