LONDON, Ky. (April 28, 2008) - Boater Terry Ledford of Barbourville, Ky., won the Bass Fishing League Mountain Division bass fishing tournament on Laurel Lake Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 21 pounds, 12 ounces. The victory earned Ledford $3,801 plus a $670 Ranger contingency bonus and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Wheeler Lake Regional Championship in Decatur, Ala., Oct. 9-11, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Ledford caught his bass in shallow water, pitching a Brush Hog.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Tony Patterson of Flat Lick, Ky. (five bass, 17-08, $2,236); Michael Morrison of Prestonburg, Ky. (five bass, 15-13, $1,492); Bill Smith Jr. of Somerset, Ky. (five bass, 15-05, $968) and Kevin Snider of Elizabethtown, Ky. (four bass, 15-05, $968).
Steve Cornett of Manchester, Ky., took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $650 for a 5-pound, 10-ounce bass he caught on a shaky head.
Paul Flatt of Cookeville, Tenn., earned $2,064 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to three bass weighing 11 pounds, 12 ounces that he caught on a green-pumpkin shaky-head worm.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Shane Winchester of Glasgow, Ky., (two bass, 11-00, $1,032); George Elliott of Stanford, Ky. (three bass, 9-07, $688); Travis Smith of Corbin, Ky. (three bass, 9-03, $482); Wayne Crouch of Jamestown, Tenn. (five bass, 8-13, $395) and Lucas Devere of Berea, Ky. (three bass, 8-13, $395).
Winchester earned $287 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 8-ounce bass he caught fishing points.
Mountain Division anglers will visit the Barren River in Scottsville, Ky., May 17 for their fourth regular-season event. A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on the Barren River in Scottsville, Ky., Sept. 13-14.
