COLUMBIANA, Ala. (May 11, 2009) - Dalton Bobo of Northport, Ala., won the Bass Fishing League Dixie Division bass fishing tournament on Lay Lake Saturday with a five-bass limit weighing 14 pounds, 4 ounces. The victory earned Bobo $4,155 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Lake Seminole Regional Championship in Bainbridge, Ga., Oct. 22-24, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Bobo said he caught the majority of his bass sight fishing with a creature bait and a small jerkbait.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Coby Carden of Calera, Ala. (five bass, 14-3, $2,078); Jason Nixon of Wetumpka, Ala. (five bass, 14-0, $1,383); Larry Gaines of Valparaiso, Fla. (five bass, 13-3, $970) and Richard Barron of Dadeville, Ala. (five bass, 13-0, $831).
Gaines took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $570 for a 4-pound, 15-ounce bass he caught.
Marcus Corbett of Anniston, Ala., earned $2,078 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 13 pounds, 4 ounces. Corbett said he caught the majority of his bass swimming a jig.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Robert Volinic of Peach Tree City, Ga. (five bass, 11-9, $1,039); Shawn Marquis of Columbus, Ga. (five bass, 10-9, $691); Joey Yasinski of Senoia, Ga. (five bass, 10-7, $485); and Daniel Segers of Wetumpka, Ala. (five bass, 10-6, $416).
James McWhorter of Hamilton, Ohio, earned $285 as the co-angler Big Bass winner with a 3-pound, 11-ounce bass he caught.
The next Dixie Division event will be held on Lake Neely Henry in Gadsden, Ala., June 6.
