PELL CITY, Ala. (Sept. 28, 2009) - Kyle Dorsett of Odenville, Ala., won the Bass Fishing League Dixie Division two-day Super Bass Fishing Tournament on Logan Martin Lake Sunday with a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 33 pounds, 5 ounces. The victory earned Dorsett $6,066.
"This feels great, man," said Dorsett, who calls Logan Martin Lake his home lake and spends about 60 days a year fishing the waters. "Especially when you go into the second day leading and you wish it was a one-day event."
Dorsett said he caught his fish targeting piers and bluff walls with jigs and spinnerbaits.
"I had fish found in practice and I saved them for the second day," Dorsett said. "There weren't many boats in that area, so that wasn't even a factor."
Rounding out the top five boaters are Jason Nixon of Wetumpka, Ala. (10 bass, 32-4, $3,033); Ken Bearden of La Grange, Ga. (10 bass, 29-2, $2,024); Tim Hurst of Oxford, Ala. (10 bass, 28-9, $1,415) and Mark McCaig of Oxford, Ala. (10 bass, 27-11, $1,213).
Nixon took home the Boater Division Folgers Big Bass award, earning $832 for a 5-pound, 7-ounce bass he caught flipping a homemade jig.
Michael Wright of Covington, Ga., earned $3,033 as the co-angler winner Sunday thanks to a two-day catch of 10 bass weighing 22 pounds, 12 ounces that he caught fishing docks with a soft-plastic worm.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Richard Moncus of Fortson, Ga. (10 bass, 22-11, $1,517); Dennis Hudson of Fortson, Ga. (10 bass, 21-6, $1,010); Adam Wade of Heflin, Ala. (10 bass, 21-2, $708); and Paul Keith of Talladega, Ala. (10 bass, 20-1, $607).
