Cherry Wins Bass Fishing Tournament on Lake Norman

TERRELL, N.C. (Sept. 15, 2008) - Boater Hank Cherry of Maiden, N.C., won the Bass Fishing League North Carolina Division Super Bass Fishing Tournament on Lake Norman with a two-day catch of 10 bass weighing 23 pounds, 5 ounces. The victory earned Cherry $5,259 plus a $928 Ranger contingency bonus.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Scott Hamrick of Denver, N.C. (10 bass, 22-07, $3,094); Patrick Tierney of Denver, N.C. (10 bass, 21-08, $2,062); David Williams of Maiden, N.C. (10 bass, 20-05, $1,444) and Rusty White of Rock Hill, S.C. (10 bass, 19-05, $1,238).

   Tierney took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $862 for a 4-pound, 8-ounce bass.

   Chuck Poovey of Denver, N.C., earned $3,094 as the co-angler winner thanks to seven bass weighing 13 pounds, 2 ounces.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Mark Murphy of Lexington, N.C. (seven bass, 11-06, $1,547); George Hirapetian of Charlotte, N.C. (seven bass, 11-02, $1,029); Bryan New of Belmont, N.C. (seven bass, 9-11, $722) and Robert Sledzewski of Maiden, N.C. (five bass, 9-06, $619).

   Terry Phillips of Stanley, N.C. and Travis Chilcot of Matthews, N.C., each earned $215 as the co-angler Big Bass winners after catching a 3-pound, 4-ounce bass.
