Yanni Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on the Potomac River

MARBURY, Md. (Sept. 29, 2008) - Boater Peter Yanni of Gaithersburg, Md., won the Bass Fishing League Northeast Division Super Bass Fishing Tournament on the Potomac River with a two-day catch of 10 bass weighing 30 pounds, 10 ounces. The victory earned Yanni $4,315 plus a $761 Ranger bonus.

   Yanni said he threw buzz baits and soft plastic frogs over grass beds to catch his limits of bass.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Sean Stepp of Stafford, Va. (10 bass, 30-08, $2,539); Michael Draper of Glen Burnie, Md. (10 bass, 30-07, $1,694); David Barker of Emmitsburg, Md. (10 bass, 29-09, $1,185) and Otis Darnell of Linden, Va. (10 bass, 28-04, $1,015).

   Jeffery Alexander of Ephrata, Pa., took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $637 for a 5-pound, 9-ounce bass that he caught.

   James Spencer of Beltsville, Md., earned $2,539 as the co-angler winner thanks to 10 bass weighing 27 pounds, 12 ounces that he caught on buzz baits and spinner baits.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Jerry Pyles of Middletown, Md. (10 bass, 25-14, $1,269); Alan Artisst of Washington, D.C. (10 bass, 24-04, $846); Omari Navies of Fort Washington, Md. (10 bass, 23-13, $592) and Mark Snyder of Elizabethtown, Pa. (10 bass, 23-06, $508).

   Jeff White of Rhoadesville, Va., earned $319 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 2-ounce bass.
