WOODBRIDGE, Va. (July 13, 2009) - Barton Wines of Warrenton, Va., won the Bass Fishing League Shenandoah Division bass fishing tournament on the Potomac River Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 18 pounds, 15 ounces. The victory earned Wines $4,009 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Potomac River Regional Championship in Marbury, Md., Oct. 8-10, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Wines said he was flipping grass with a Sweet Beaver near Mattawoman Creek.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Tony Black of Manassas, Va. (five bass, 18-0, $2,005); Ricky Windsor of Huntingtown, Md. (five bass, 17-7, $1,336); Todd Schaff of Purcellville, Va. (five bass, 16-13, $935) and Robert Grike of Dumfried, Va., and Bruce Ring of Front Royal, Va. (five bass, 16-7, $768).
Barton Wines took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $550 for a 7-pound bass he caught.
Kermit Crowder of Matoaca, Va., earned $2,005 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 20 pounds, 15 ounces that he caught on a Spro Frog.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Scott Wiley of Midlothian, Va. (five bass, 15-7, $1,002); David O'Flynn of Gainesville, Va. (five bass, 14-14, $668); Jim House of Pasadena, Md. (five bass, 13-8, $468); and Gabriel Scott of Ruckersville, Va. (five bass, 13-4, $401).
Scott Wiley earned $275 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 11-ounce bass.
The next Shenandoah Division event, a two-day Super Tournament, will be held on Kerr Lake in Henderson, N.C., Sept. 19-20.
