ELBERTON, Ga. (May 11, 2009) - Scott Browning of Franklin, N.C., won the Bass Fishing League Savannah River Division bass fishing tournament on Lake Russell Saturday with a five-bass limit weighing 19 pounds, 5 ounces. The victory earned Browning $3,963 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Lake Norman Regional Championship in Lake Norman, N.C., Oct. 22-24, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Browning said he targeted spawning and post-spawn fish with a topwater floating worm.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Kerry Partain of Elberton, Ga. (five bass, 17-1, $1,981); Brandon Cobb of Greenwood, S.C. (five bass, 15-7, $1,322); Travis Moon of Belton, S.C. (five bass, 15-4, $925) and Jack Corey of Lincolnton, Ga. (five bass, 14-11, $793).
Browning took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $535 for a 7-pound, 3-ounce bass he caught.
Jeremy Teal of Carnesville, Ga., earned $1,981 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 11 pounds, 1 ounce. Teal said he caught the majority of his bass on a crankbait and a spinnerbait.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Joe Anders of Easley, S.C. (five bass, 10-15, $991); Drew Williams of Clemson, S.C. (five bass, 10-7, $662); Zach Hyder of Landrum, S.C. (five bass, 9-13, $462); and David Faulkner of Greenville, S.C. (four bass, 8-14, $396).
Teal earned $267 as the co-angler Big Bass winner with a 5-pound, 7-ounce bass.
The next Savannah River Division event, a two-day Super Tournament, will be held on Clarks Hill Lake in Appling, Ga., Sept. 26-27.
