Freeman Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on Toledo Bend

MANY, La. (June 22, 2009) - Glen Freeman of Converse, La., won the Bass Fishing League Louisiana/Texas Division bass fishing tournament on Toledo Bend Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 21 pounds, 15 ounces. The victory earned Freeman $3,766 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the DeGray Lake Regional Championship in Arkadelphia, Ark., Oct. 22-24, where he could ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

   Freeman said he caught his fish on a 7-inch soft-plastic worm around timber and stumps in 15 to 20 feet of water.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Stephen Johnston of Hemphill, Texas (five bass, 20-3, $1,883); Andrew Upshaw of Hemphill, Texas (five bass, 19-0, $1,256); Gene Stovall of Bronson, Texas (five bass, 13-5, $879); and Tim Reneau of Del Rio, Texas (four bass, 13-1, $753).

   Freeman won the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $500 for a 7-pound, 4-ounce bass.

   Myron Sims of Quitman, Texas, earned $1,883 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to four bass weighing 14 pounds, 12 ounces.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Dewey Day of Lufkin, Texas (five bass, 12-15, $942); Trent Holloway of Dayton, Texas (five bass, 11-12, $627); John Ellender Jr. of Hemphill, Texas (four bass, 10-12, $439); and Joseph Procell of Coushatta, La. (five bass, 10-7, $377).

   Sims earned $340 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 6-pound, 10-ounce bass.

   The next Louisiana/Texas Division event will be held on Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Jasper, Texas, Oct. 3-4.
