CAMDEN, S.C. (June 16, 2008) - Boater Roby Kelley of Sumter, S.C., won the Bass Fishing League South Carolina Division bass fishing tournament on Lake Wateree Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 20 pounds, 5 ounces. The victory earned Kelley $3,233 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Albemarle Sound Regional Championship in Elizabeth City, N.C., Oct. 9-11, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Lindwood Thornhill of Pineville, S.C. (five bass, 18-02, $1,902); Rusty White of Rock Hill, S.C. (five bass, 16-14, $1,267); Johnny Bihlear of Moncks Corner, S.C. (five bass, 16-05, $824) and Greg Rikard of Leesville, S.C. (five bass, 16-05, $824).
Lonnie Fulmer of Batesburg, S.C., took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $505 for a 5-pound, 9-ounce bass he caught on a Charlie worm.
Shane Suddeth of Inman, S.C., earned $1,902 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 16 pounds, 1 ounce that he caught on a Zoom Trick worm in green-pumpkin.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Steven Spivey of Whiteville, N.C. (five bass, 15-08, $951); Jon-Michael Brock of Inman, S.C. (five bass, 14-00, $634); Donnie Davis of Greer, S.C. (five bass, 12-12, $444) and Clyde Whiteside of Forest City, N.C. (five bass, 11-12, $380).
Suddeth earned $252 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 6-pound, 1-ounce bass he caught on Zoom Trick worm in green-pumpkin. A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on Lake Wylie in Lake Wylie, S.C., Sept. 27-28.
