SPRING CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2008) - Boater Dewayne Wilson of La Follette, Tenn., won the Bass Fishing League Volunteer Division Super Bass Fishing Tournament on Watts Bar Lake with a two-day catch of eight bass weighing 23 pounds, 9 ounces. The victory earned Wilson $4,641.
Wilson said he caught the majority of his fish on a large soft plastic worm fishing mid-lake deep structure.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Jonathan Pelfrey of Rockwood, Tenn. (eight bass, 19-13, $2,730); Adam Johnston of Kingston, Tenn. (six bass, 16-14, $1,820); David Warfield of Dayton, Tenn. (five bass, 16-08, $1,274) and Lance Grigsby of Luttrell, Tenn. (four bass, 15-08, $1,092).
Derrick Blake of Rockwood took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $712 for a 6-pound, 1-ounce bass that he caught on a peanut butter and jelly jig in deep structure in Caney Creek.
Garry Collins of Russell Springs, Ky., earned $2,730 as the co-angler winner thanks to eight bass weighing 21 pounds, 12 ounces that he caught while fishing deep soft plastics and a Norman DD-22 deep-diving crankbait.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Darren Kelly of Wartburg, Tenn. (seven bass, 20-06, $1,365); Gregory Major of Knoxville, Tenn. (six bass, 17-13, $909); Bud McKelvey of Knoxville (five bass, 17-11, $637) and David Malone of Bluff City, Tenn. (six bass, 15-01, $546).
David Shreve of Knoxville earned $356 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 15-ounce bass.
