Williams Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on West Point Lake

LANETT, Ala. (May 5, 2008) - Boater Randy Williams of LaGrange, Ga., won the Bass Fishing League Dixie Division tournament on West Point Lake Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 18 pounds, 1 ounce. The victory earned Williams $3,793 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Wheeler Lake Regional Championship in Decatur, Ala., Oct. 9-11, where he could ultimately win a new 198VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

   "I caught all my fish on a spinnerbait and black and blue jig," Wiliams said. "I fished the grass in one area all day."

   Rounding out the top five boaters are David Millsaps of Ranger, Ga. (five bass, 17-02, $2,232); Dalton Bobo of Northport, Ala. (five bass, 15-01, $1,489); Ted Caldwell of Alexander City, Ala. (five bass, 14-13, $1,041) and Steven Ingram of Tallassee, Ala. (five bass, 11-08, $893).

   Caldwell took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $640 for a 7-pound, 1-ounce bass.

   Scott Noles of Woodland, Ala., earned $2,232 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 11 pounds, 15 ounces.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Randy Hill of Jonesboro, Ga. (five bass, 11-11, $1,116); Mike Bruning of Villa Rica, Ga. (four bass, 9-14, $743); Rodney Lanier of Opelika, Ala. (four bass, 8-08, $483) and Russell Weldon of Tallassee, Ala. (five bass, 8-08, $483).

   Noles earned $320 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 6-pound, 4-ounce bass he caught on a shaky head close to the dam.

   Dixie Division anglers will visit Logan Martin Lake in Pell City, Ala., July 12 for their fourth regular-season event. A two-day Super Tournament, the division's fifth and final event, will be held on Lay Lake in Columbiana, Ala., Sept. 6-7.
