DECATUR, Ala. (Sept. 29, 2008) - Boater Mike Cox of Huntsville, Ala., won the Bass Fishing League Bama Division Super Bass Fishing Tournament on Wheeler Lake with a two-day catch of 10 bass weighing 27 pounds, 10 ounces. The victory earned Cox $4,032 plus a $711 Ranger bonus.
Cox said he used a big worm on mid-lake ledges in 10 to 12 feet of water to catch his winning limits of bass.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Blake Parker of Harpersville, Ala. (10 bass, 23-14, $2,372); Eddie Jackson of Trussville, Ala. (10 bass, 23-00, $1,579); Joseph Webster of Fulton, Miss. (10 bass, 22-07, $1,107) and Brent Crow of Hartselle, Ala. (10 bass, 22-05, $949).
Parker took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $570 for a 7-pound, 7-ounce bass that he caught on a crankbait.
Eric Davenport of Birmingham, Ala., earned $2,372 as the co-angler winner thanks to 10 bass weighing 19 pounds, 6 ounces that he caught on a Carolina rig on lower-lake ledges in 8 to 20 feet of water.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Mike Knox of Alexander City, Ala. (10 bass, 19-03, $1,186); Byron Terry of Danville, Ala. (10 bass, 18-13, $792); David Parks of Decatur, Ala. (10 bass, 17-08, $553) and Larry Sharpe of Lanett, Ala. (10 bass, 16-05, $474).
Jerry Goodner of Cleveland, Tenn., earned $285 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 10-ounce bass.
