Glasgow, Ky. (June 11, 2007) - Boater Jim Dean of Huntington, W.V., won the Bass Fishing League Mountain Division bass fishing tournament on the Barren River Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 18 pounds, 5 ounces. The victory earned Dean $3,630 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Kentucky Lake Regional Championship in Gilbertsville, Ky., Oct. 18-20, where he could ultimately win a new 519VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Dean caught his five-bass limit throwing a green-pumpkin jig near deep ledges.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Doug Greene of Salyersville, Ky. (five bass, 16-12, $2,136); JB King of Byrdstown, Tenn. (five bass, 15-09, $1,424); Gary Watters of Whitley City, Ky. (five bass, 15-04, $997) and David Upchurch of Columbia, Ky. (five bass, 14-12, $854).
Watters took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $595 for a 5-pound, 12-ounce bass. Bobby Stinson of Scottsville, Ky., earned $2,023 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 13 pounds, 5 ounces that he caught while fishing near ledges.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Leonard Mason of East Bernstadt, Ky. (five bass, 13-04, $1,011); Mark Fox of McKee, Ky. (five bass, 12-02, $674); Rick Hembree of Berea, Ky. (five bass, 12-01, $472) and Ralph Feldman of Lancaster, Ky. (five bass, 11-06, $405).
JR Gowen of Leitchfield, Ky., earned $277 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 5-ounce bass. The final event of the regular season will be a two-day Super Tournament held Sept. 15-16 on the Barren River in Glasgow, Ky.
