GREENVILLE, Miss. (Sept. 10, 2007) - Boater Reid Sanders of Newton, Miss., won the Bass Fishing League Mississippi Division Super Bass Fishing Tournament on Lake Ferguson with a two-day catch of eight bass weighing 21 pounds, 5 ounces. The victory earned Sanders $5,145 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Kentucky Lake Regional Championship in Gilbertsville, Ky., Oct. 18-20, where he could ultimately win a new 519VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Sanders caught his bass throwing an array of topwater baits near docks and grass to catch his limit.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Bobby Cooper of Hernando, Miss. (nine bass, 20-07, $3,026); Mark Floyd of Blue Mountain, Miss. (nine bass, 20-01, $2,018); Jim Phillips of Greenwood, Miss. (10 bass, 20-01, $1,412) and Louis Gray of Philadelphia, Miss. (nine bass, 19-01, $1,211).
Bobby Murphy of Florence, Miss., took home the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award, earning $817 for a 5-pound, 2-ounce bass.
James Bond of Brandon, Miss., earned $2,916 as the co-angler winner thanks to 10 bass weighing 19 pounds, 12 ounces that he caught while fishing a finesse worm near rock piles.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Matt Hults of Gautier, Miss. (nine bass, 18-12, $1,458); Fred Murray of Hernando, Miss. (seven bass, 16-11, $971); Jack Harrelson of Corinth, Miss. (nine bass, 16-07, $680) and Mike Ainsworth of Brandon, Miss. (seven bass, 16-04, $583).
Michael Adams of Ocean Springs, Miss., earned $394 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 7-ounce bass.
