GREERS FERRY, Ark. (May 7, 2007) - Boater Clinton Mayfield of Hot Springs, Ark., won the Bass Fishing League Arkie Division bass fishing tournament on Greers Ferry Lake Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 11 pounds, 11 ounces. The victory earned Mayfield $3,983 plus a $702 Ranger contingency bonus and placed him one step closer to qualifying for Wright Patman Lake Regional Championship in Texarkana, Texas, Oct. 25-27, where he could ultimately win a new 519VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Mayfield caught his bass by throwing a jighead worm on upper lake points.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Greg Dyer of Benton, Ark. (three bass, 11-2, $2,343); Mike Brower Jr. of Texarkana, Texas (five bass, 11-0, $1,562); Tim Gartman of Conway, Ark. (five bass, 10-10, $1,093) and Kevin Brown of Malvern, Ark. (five bass, 10-01, $937).
Greg Dyer took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $690 for a 4-pound, 11-ounce bass.
Todd Fite of Poyen, Ark., earned $2,309 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 9 pounds, 11 ounces that he caught while fishing a jighead worm on a Carolina rig.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Ray Cates of Texarkana, Ark. (five bass, 9-3, $1,155); Billy Holt Jr. of Sherwood, Ark. (five bass, 9-0, $770); Rusty Rogers of Arkadelphia, Ark. (five bass, 8-2, $539) and Jimmy Burrow of Malvern, Ark. (five bass, 7-12, $462).
Jeff Foster of Benton, Ark., earned $340 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 3-pound, 14-ounce bass.
The Arkie Division's fourth event will be held June 9 on Lake Dardanelle in Russellville, Ark., and the final event of the regular season will be a two-day Super Tournament held Oct. 6-7 on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, Ark.
