SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (Sept. 25, 2006) - Boater David Gray of Section, Ala., earned 300 points and $7,695 Sunday as the winner of the Bass Fishing League Choo Choo Division Super Bass Tournament on Lake Guntersville.
Gray's two-day winning catch of 10 bass weighed 37 pounds. He was throwing a combination of topwater frogs and flipping jigs around shallow cover.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Randall Tharp of Gardendale, Ala. (10 bass, 34 pounds, 4 ounces, $3,848); Tony Harrison of Athens, Ala. (10 bass, 30 pounds, 14 ounces, $2,565); Gerald Gann of Bridgeport, Ala., (10 bass, 29 pounds, 4 ounces, $1,796) and Eric Nethery of Acworth, Ga. (nine bass, 28 pounds, 11 ounces, $1,539).
Tharp also took home an additional $500 for being the highest placing Ranger Cup participant. He also earned the powered by Yamaha bonus of $250 for his second place finish.
Jack Womack of Moody, Ala., won the Boater Division Snickers Big Bass award with a 6-pound, 12-ounce bass that earned him $1,200.
Danny Jordan of Kennesaw, Ga., earned $3,848 as the co-angler winner thanks to eight bass weighing 24 pounds, 3 ounces that he caught on a SPRO topwater frog and a SPRO Fat 30 thrown over submerged grass beds.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Greg GIlley of Boaz, Ala. (eight bass, 22 pounds, 12 ounces, $1,924); Virginia Buckner of Scottsboro, Ala. (eight bass, 22 pounds, $1,281); Jack Brown of Ooltewah, Tenn. (six bass, 19 pounds, 3 ounces, $898) and David Davenport of Dunlap, Tenn. (six bass, 18 pounds, 3 ounces, $770).
Jerry Goodner of Cleveland, Tenn., earned $600 as the co-angler Snickers Big Bass winner with a 6-pound, 4-ounce bass.
The top 40 Choo Choo Division boaters and co-anglers based on year-end points standings will now advance to the no-entry-fee Lake Demopolis Regional Championship near Demopolis, Ala., Oct. 19-21, where they will compete against Everglades, Mississippi and Seminole anglers for a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck in the Boater Division plus six slots in the no-entry-fee 2007 Wal-Mart BFL All-American.
