WOODBRIDGE, Va. (May 21, 2007) - Boater Bruce Ring of Front Royal, Va., won the Bass Fishing League Shenandoah Division bass fishing tournament on the Potomac River Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 17 pounds, 10 ounces. The victory earned Ring $4,380 plus a $773 Ranger contingency bonus and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Potomac River Regional Championship in Marbury, Va., Oct. 11-13, where he could ultimately win a new 519VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Rounding out the top five boaters are David Wickenheiser of Edgewood, Md. (five bass, 17-4, $2,577); Shayne Berlo of Vienna, Va. (five bass, 16-12, $1,719); Mike Sustek of Purcellville, Va. (five bass, 15-15, $1,203) and Gregory Cooper of Yorktown, Va. (three bass, 15-11, $1,031).
Peter Yanni of Gaithersburg, Md., took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $795 for a 5-pound, 12-ounce bass.
Kevin Mothersell of Rochester, N.Y., earned $2,545 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 13 pounds, 14 ounces.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Michael Avery of Fuquay Varina, N.C. (five bass, 13-7, $1,272); Bill Herron of Chesapeake, Va. (five bass, 13-4, $849); Aimee Carlton of Catlett, Va. (four bass, 12-12, $551) and Brad Reece of Mechanicsville, Va. (five bass, 12-12, $551).
Carlton also earned $392 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 2-ounce bass.
The Shenandoah Division's next event will be June 23 on Kerr Lake in Henderson, N.C. The division's fourth event will be held July 14 on the James River in Richmond, Va., and the final event of the regular season will be a two-day Super Tournament held Sept. 22-23 on the Potomac River in Woodbridge, Va.
