WOODBRIDGE, Va. (May 14, 2007) - Boater Mike McDonald of Randleman, N.C., won the Bass Fishing League Piedmont Division bass fishing tournament on the Potomac River Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 19 pounds, 6 ounces. The victory earned McDonald $4,380 and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Potomac River Regional Championship in Charles County, Md., Oct. 11-13, where he could ultimately win a new 519VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Jimmy Coleman of Monroe, Va. (five bass, 18-13, $2,577); Mark Robertson of Henderson, N.C. (five bass,18-8, $1,719); Ron Farren of Hughesville, Md. (five bass, 18-6, $1,203) and Mickey Pettry of Manassas, Va. (five bass, 17-13, $1,031).
Jay Garrard of Durham, N.C., took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $795 for a 6-pound, 7-ounce bass. Richard Haber Jr. of Severn, Md., earned $2,512 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to five bass weighing 18 pounds, 2 ounces.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are John Yager of Apex, N.C. (five bass, 18-00, $1,256); Stephen Lucy of Lacrosse, Va. (four bass, 17-13, $838); Steve Kiser of Tarboro, N.C. (five bass, 17-2, $586) and Danny Lilly of Wake Forest, N.C. (five bass, 16-3, $502).
Lucy also earned an additional $387 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 6-pound, 8-ounce bass.
The Piedmont Division's next event will be June 30 on Kerr Lake in Henderson, N.C., followed their fifth and final event of the regular season, a two-day Super Tournament held Sept. 29-30 on Kerr Lake in Henderson, N.C.
