Woods Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on Toledo Bend

HEMPHILL, Texas (April 16, 2007) - Boater Charlie Woods of Carthage, Texas, won the Bass Fishing League Cowboy Division bass fishing tournament on Toledo Bend Saturday with a five-bass catch weighing 14 pounds, 15 ounces. The victory earned Woods $3,233 plus a $570 Ranger bonus and placed him one step closer to qualifying for the Wright Patman Lake Regional Championship in Texarkana, Texas, Oct. 25-27, where he could ultimately win a new 519VX Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.

   Woods caught most of his fish in shallow water near mid-lake using a wacky-rigged Senko.

   Rounding out the top five boaters are Andrew Upshaw of Hemphill, Texas, (five bass, 14-13, $1,902); Jeff Kirkwood of Royse City, Texas, (five bass, 13-11, $1,267); Bobby Feazel of Hemphill, Texas, (five bass, 13-6, $888) and Dicky Newberry of Houston, Texas, (five bass, 12-14, $761).

   Tommy Macky of Bryan, Texas, took home the Boater Division Big Bass award, earning $505 for a 7-pound, 11-ounce bass. Mark Scogin of Huntsville, Texas, earned $1,902 as the co-angler winner Saturday thanks to four bass weighing 12 pounds, 13 ounces that he caught while fishing a Carolina rig in deep grass.

   Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Scott Landon of Houston, Texas, (five bass, 12-6, $951); Robert Farmer of Killeen, Texas, (five bass, 11-11, $634); Robert Mofett of Silsbee, Texas, (four bass, 11-5, $444) and Vaughan Phillips of Spring, Texas, (three bass, 10-6, $380).

   Phillips earned $252 as the co-angler Big Bass winner after catching a 6-pound, 3-ounce bass. The Cowboy Division's final event of the regular season will be a two-day Super Tournament held Sept. 29-30 on Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Jasper, Texas.
