ROGERS, Ark. (April 21, 2013) – The team of Nick Marsh and Kyle Boe, from Lake Orion High School in Lake Orion, Mich., dominated the field Sunday with five bass weighing 10 pounds, 14 ounces to take the top honors at The Bass Federation (TBF) 2013 High School Fishing National Championship on Beaver Lake. For their efforts, the team won a $10,000 scholarship ($5,000 to each team member).
Rounding out the top five teams were:
2nd: Borah High School, Boise, Idaho, David Ashton and Jake Beahm, five bass, 10-0
3rd: Prince George High School, Prince George, Va., Ryan Drewery and Junior Roberts, five bass, 8-1
4th: Blair High School, Blair, Neb., Matthew Neiburg and Zach Madsen, four bass, 7-13
5th: Bandys High School, Catawba, N.C., K.J. Queen and Chelsey Queen, four bass, 7-2
Overall there were 23 bass weighing 43 pounds, 14 ounces, with three five-bass limits caught by the five teams.
Each FLW/TBF Federation High School Fishing team competed in their state championship event in one of five conferences – Central, Northern, Southern, Southeastern and Western. The top team from each state championship qualifies for one of five conference championships. The winning team from each conference championship advances to the national championship, held in conjunction with the FLW College Fishing National Championship.
High School Fishing is free to enter and open to all ninth, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students, including home-schooled students, who are members of the Student Angler Federation.
