Plattsmouth High Wins Tournament in Missouri

WARSAW, Mo. (March 19, 2018) – The Plattsmouth High School duo of Haley Sporven & Draven Ray, both of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, brought two bass to the scale Saturday  weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces to win the 2018 Bass Pro Shops FLW High School Fishing Truman Lake Open. The win advanced the team to the 2018 High School Fishing National championship, held June 26-30, on Pickwick Lake in Florence, Alabama.

A field of 19 teams competed in the no-entry fee tournament, which launched from Long Shoal Marina in Warsaw. In FLW/TBF High School Fishing competition, the top 10-percent of teams competing advance to the High School Fishing National Championship.

The top team on Truman Lake that advanced to the 2018 High School Fishing National Championship was:

  1st:     Plattsmouth High School, Plattsmouth, Neb. – Haley Sporven and Draven Ray, both of Plattsmouth, Neb., two bass, 6-15

Rounding out the top 5 teams were:

  2nd:    Kearney High School, Kearney, Neb. – Nathan Pratt and Haden Long, both of Kearney, Neb., one bass, 6-14

  3rd:     Hillcrest High School, Springfield, Mo. – Kody Wiertzema and Pierce Randolph, both of Springfield, Mo., one bass, 3-9

  4th:     Bolivar High School, Bolivar, Mo. – John Hubbert and Andrew Johnson, both of Bolivar, Mo., one bass, 2-8

  5th:     Kick-back Bass Club – Matthew Gerber, Lexona, Kan., and Josh Flynn, Overland Park, Kan., one bass, 2-3

The 2018 Bass Pro Shops FLW High School Fishing Truman Lake Open was a two-person (team) event for students in grades 7-12, open to any Student Angler Federation (SAF) affiliated high school club in the United States. The top 10 percent of each Challenge, Open, and state championship field will advance to the High School Fishing National Championship. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship to the school of their choice.
